Celso Bianco, MD

America's Blood Centers


Celso Bianco, MD, is executive vice president of America's Blood Centers. Dr. Bianco is an expert on medical issues within the blood banking community. 

Before joining America's Blood Centers, Dr. Bianco was the vice president for Medical Affairs of the New York Blood Center (NYBC), which he joined in 1982. During his tenure at the NYBC, he managed issues related to transfusion-transmitted diseases and blood safety. Dr. Bianco has published many scientific papers on plasma membrane receptors of lymphocytes and macrophages, immunology, infectious diseases, and transfusion medicine. He was an assistant professor at New York University School of Medicine and at Rockefeller University, and professor of Pathology at the State University of New York in Brooklyn.

He is a member of the AABB, the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the American Society of Hematology, and the International Society of Blood Transfusion. He was a member of the Transfusion Transmitted Diseases Committee and of the Scientific Section of the AABB. He served as president of America's Blood Centers in 1999 and 2000. He was also a member of the New York State Council on Blood and Transfusion Services and a member of the Board of the Blood Bank Association of New York State.
