Louis M. Katz, MD
Executive Vice President, Medical Affairs
Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center
Dr. Katz is a past president of America's Blood Centers and is now executive vice president of Medical Affairs of the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center in Davenport, Iowa. He is also a clinical infectious diseases physician responsible for a Ryan White Title 3 comprehensive AIDS clinic, hospital epidemiologist for Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, and medical director of the Scott County (Iowa) Health Department. His bibliography includes presentations, abstracts, and publications; they cover topics like the pathogenesis of Legionellosis, the implementation and utility of computerized blood donor screening, and the impact of Mississippi River flooding on the incidence of gastrointestinal illness.
He received his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine, where he trained in internal medicine and infectious diseases, and he is board certified in both. Dr. Katz has served as the chair of the ABC Scientific, Medical, and Technical Committee; as a member and chair of the AABB Transfusion Transmitted Diseases Committee; and as a member and chair of the FDA Blood Products Advisory Committee.
Organizational memberships include the AABB, the American Society for Microbiology, the American Academy for the Advancement of Science, the International AIDS Society, and the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care.
